Armstrong Company History

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is where Armstrong began as a cork-cutting shop. Stamping the name, "Armstrong" on the cork as early as 1864, Thomas Armstrong effectively branded the company. Over the years, a philosophy of balancing the best interests of the customers was maintained through the new products that were being developed, such as insulated cork, fiberboard, ceilings, tiles, and linoleum; eventually leading to a new factory in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1909.

In the 21st century, Armstrong continues to provide a balance as a major floor company that produces ceilings and cabinets throughout the world, reaching both the commercial and residential market.
