Review:
"Pre-finished wood flooring is it a good choice?"
In the fall of 2008 we were remodeling our Master Bedroom and looking at installing new hardwood floors. A national discount-flooring center offered very good deals on pre-finished flooring; after comparing prices and quality we decided to go with their Virginia Mill Works hand-scraped Golden Teak. The wood had a lovely dark, golden finish and at 3/4" thick it appeared to be extra sturdy. Our contractor installed the new flooring without any difficulties - the teak came in 4" wide tongue and groove planks and was very easy to work with. However, within a few weeks after moving back in to the bedroom I began to regret my choice in flooring. The dark colored wood attracts dust like a magnet - I am constantly dry mopping and/or vacuuming the floor. Another downside is that the finish on the wood scratches very easily. We've also had several boards crack all the way through. Two years have passed now and I must say that if I could do this remodel over again I would not choose a dark stained, pre-finished Virginia Mill Works flooring product.
